2018 ISOE International ALARA Symposium
2018 ISOE International ALARA Symposium was held on 24-26, October 2018 in Kyoto city, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, with attendance of 45 people from Japan, Republic of Korea, France, Sweden, Russia, UAE, and USA. The first 2days were dedicated for paper presentation and discussion, and a technical tour to FUGEN Decommissioning Engineering Center was held on the last day.
The symposium consisted of 21 papers and those papers were presented in 5 sessions – Instrumentation and Monitoring, Database Relevant, Regulation Matters, Decommissioning Matters, and Radiation Protection in Nuclear Power Plants. The participants shared/exchanged information throughout fruitful discussion during the symposium.
At the end of the symposium, the following two distinguished papers were selected. As the first attempt for the Symposium, distinguished papers were selected by participants’ voting.
- Newly adopted Remote Monitoring System successfully reduces radiation exposure at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. Chisato OMATA, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.
- Promotion of ALARA using compton camera. Manato SHOJI, Tohoku Electric Power Company, Inc.

A technical tour to the FUGEN Decommissioning Engineering Center of JAEA was held on 26 October 2018.

First, the attendees were provided lectures on the current situation of the NPP, JAEAfs technologies for decommissioning, and further decommissioning activities. Then they moved to the site on foot then go into the reactor building and turbine building of the FUGEN. When they visited the turbine building, they saw a lot of equipment which has been already detached and sorted in the cage. Then they moved to reactor building and saw a current situation of reactor core whose fuel has been removed. During the tour, staffs from a section of the radiation protection and decommissioning were on the side of attendees and answer questions from them. A lot of questions were made during and after the tour and the staffs of JAEA kindly answered them. The attendees were very much interested in and satisfied with the tour.
