TEPCO Road Map

With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, TEPCO issued a road map in April 2011.

Roadmap for Immediate Actions (Issues / Targets / Major Countermeasures)
Basic Policy

By bringing the reactors and spent fuel pools to a stable cooling condition and mitigating the release of radioactive materials, TEPCO plans to make every effort to enable evacuees to return to their homes and for all citizens to be able to secure a sound life.

Targets
Step1 Radiation dose is in steady decline ¨@Step2@Release of radioactive materials is under control and radiation dose is being significantly held down@Achievement date : around 3 to 6 months after achieving Step 1
Immediate Actions

Targets are set for each of the five issues and various countermeasures will be implemented simultaneously.

1)
Cooling the Reactors
2)
Cooling the Spent Fuel Pools
3)
Mitigation of Release of Radioactive Materials to Atmosphere and from Soil
4)
Containment, Storage, Processing, and Reuse of Water Contaminated by Radioactive Materials (Accumulated Water)
5)
Measurement, Reduction and Announcement of Radiation Dose in Evacuation Order/Planned Evacuation/Emergency Evacuation Preparation Areas
Completion of Step 1 and Step 2

E In July 2011, Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters judged that radiation dose was in steady decline by stable cooling which was the target for Step 1, and confirmed the achievement of STEP 1 targets.

E On December 16, 2011 completion of Step 2 was reported by judging that the reactors were brought to a condition equivalent to gcold shutdownh which was the target of Step 2.

Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap towards the decommissioning of units 1-4

Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters announced the "Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4" on December 21, 2011.
(Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap (Digest Version))

(Primary Targets)

The roadmap divides the term of decommissioning into the following three phases.
Phase 1: From the completion of Step 2 to the start of fuel removal from the spent fuel pool.
(Target: Accomplish within 2 years after completion of Step 2)
Phase 2: From the end of Phase 1 to the start of fuel debris removal.
(Target: Accomplish within 10 years after complish of Step 2)
Phase 3: From the end of Phase 2 to the end of decommissioning.
(Target: Accomplish within 30 to 40 years after the completion of Step 2)

Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap Summary

This roadmap was revised on July 30, 2012 by taking into consideration the progress of the work and problems that had occurred or became clear.
(Revised Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap (Digest Version))

On October 22, gProgress Status of the Long-and-mid Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of Units 1-4 of TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Stationh was published.
